This week, the sponsors of the YA Indie Carnival are announcing the winner of last week's 2nd Anniversary Giveaway. As such, I would like to offer heartfelt congratulations to Emma Michaels. She won a ton of GREAT indie author's books. We would also like to invite our followers to take part in an excerpt contest. The authors sponsoring the carnival will be posting an excerpt from our current 'work in progress'. Blog followers can go to the links at the bottom to read the other author's excerpts and then to YA Indie Carnival Blog to vote for their favorite. Voters will be registered to win a book from the author whose excerpt they voted for.
Below is one of my favorite...favorite...favorite excerpts from Enemies of the Cross (to be released 9/1/12). The scene is from the moment when Allison meets her grandfather, Apollo, for the first time. If you like it, please take a second or two (go to either link in red above) and vote for it:
He reached his palm out to me. I took it and knelt at his feet. Leaning over, he kissed my bowed head and whispered, “I know it is impossible for you to understand this because we have only just met, but in you, I see the people who are important to me. The ones I’ve loved the most in my life. You embody the things I miss when I think of my wife. At the same time, you carry within you my son’s quiet strengths. I know you… even if you think I don’t. I love you… even if you don’t know it,” he whispered. I felt warm tears drop onto my head and squeezed his hand tighter.
I understood perfectly what he was saying. I loved Julia, though I’d never really known her. I adored James despite our lifetime spent apart. My bond with Apollo was similar but—at the same time—different. It was as if my blood called and his answered. We had an instant connection complete with love, respect, and adulation. For us, no other conditions had to be met. -- Allison La Crosse, Enemies of the Cross (The Warrior Series, Book #3).
