Summary: Your own two feet are all you have when you've been left.

A naive Baylee loves Colt, her boyfriend of four years, more than she ever thought possible. After a little snooping, she's convinced she's well on her way toward hearing an once-in-a-lifetime proposal and starring in the wedding-of-the-year event. Instead, she's blind-sighted by a very public break-up and the crushing news that Colt is marrying someone else... someone more befitting him and the role his father expects him to take in his law firm.

Baylee may have spent years resenting Ariana, her mother, and her suicide, an intolerable show of weakness in Baylee's opinion, but after Colt leaves her just short of the altar, Baylee sees the world through her mother's eyes. She sympathizes with Ariana's actions and realizes that some things—soul deep aches—can irreparably damage you and make moving on nearly impossible.

At least, that's how she feels until she meets Ryker. With his help, Baylee discovers there is life after Colt, and she prepares to move on by pulling herself up by the bootstraps, holding her head high, and standing on her own two feet. Unfortunately, a new jealous and hateful Colt has his own plans for her, and they are plans no one—especially not Baylee—ever saw coming.

Author's Review: Like every book I've ever written, there are amazing characters. There are also exciting twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. Since no story is complete without them, there are tragedies and injustices that break your heart and make you want to kill characters off yourself. Left is a complicated book that can't be described with just one word. There are times when the characters are warm and emotional right before they become hot and passionate. The story itself vacillates between heart racing and deeply disturbing.

Excerpt #1:

After taking another quick glance in the mirror, I bent over, flipping my long brown hair forward, messing it up, and slinging it back. One more look in the mirror and I confirmed that I absolutely looked the part of a woman trying to seduce a man. I embraced my role by slipping on my highest heel fuck-me Christian Louboutin's and headed back toward Colt's study.
When I got there, he was looking out the window and talking to his secretary. "Tell him I'm leaving now, Cindy."
Dammit! I took too long.
My face dropped, and I contemplated running back up the stairs before Colt saw me dressed like a high priced call girl. Before I had a chance, he spun around, opening his mouth to yell something to me, and saw me.
Really saw me.
"Holy hell, Baylee! What is this about?"
My heart jumped when I heard how hoarse he was... when I looked up and saw that his eyes had gone black he wanted me with such fervor. I was quickly reminded of our first date, a time before I needed props to get him excited.
With my hands wringing behind my back, I said, "I-I thought you and I could spend a few minutes reminding each other what it used to be like."
I cursed myself for my nerves because they make my voice shake and my hands tremble.

Colt—my Colt—took five steps my way and crushed his lips to mine. A second later he had me pinned against the wall, and he was pulling me into him like he could never get enough... like this was the first time we'd ever kissed. There was not a cell in my body that was not burning for him. I wanted him to touch me, stroke me, and massage me. I wanted it like I've never wanted anything.

Excerpt #2:

I jog upstairs, stripping my sweaty clothes off as I go, and head toward the bathroom. The giant quartz shower is the master bath's most positive attribute  Right now, I want to turn the water on until it's scalding and stand under it until I'm clean all the way down to my marrow and the ickiness of the day is washed down the drain.
After I've wash my hair, scrub my body, and shave  my legs, I hear a bump. I poke my head around the doorless shower and see Colt.
He's so tired that he has dark circles underneath his eyes. As soon as he sees me, he brightens up and asks, "Can I join you?"
My heart squeezes. I need him, and I want him to know my love is unconditional. I nod.
He flashes me a crooked grin and strips. I can't help but enjoy the show. After he loosens his tie, I step out of the shower—soaking wet—and begin unbuttoning his shirt. I slide it off his shoulders, leaning over and and kissing his chest.

Excerpt #3:

Acting on the same kind of instinct I'd acted on earlier when I held his hand the first time, Ryker take our joined hand and puts it to his mouth, kissing each individual knuckle.
Holy hell! That's sexy!
I don't move. I just close my eyes and bask in the soft, gentle kisses he's brushing along the back of my hand and his warm breath as it tickles my skin.
Holy hell! He's sexy!
A few minutes of his very intimate attention and I've nearly forgotten all about Colt.
"Where are we going?" My words are more like a delighted hum than anything else by the time he gets finished kissing my knuckles.
Ryker hesitates. "I thought it might be in your best interest if you got out of town for the weekend."

Excerpt #4:

Ryker puts his hand under my chin and tilts my face up until he and I are staring into each other's eyes. I feel his every breath on my cheek, and I swear I can hear his heart beating.
"You have nothing to be jealous of. I can honestly tell you that I've never brought a woman to my bed for anything other than sex. Don't get me wrong. We're going to make love... soon, but right now, I know that I sleep better with you near me."
Ryker leans over and kisses me. It's soft and gentle and warm. He's not demanding anything of me, and I have to agree with him that right here... right now is not the time or place for us to make love.
Unfortunately, my head does not speak for my hormones. The more we kiss and touch each other, the more of them that are pumping through my body and demanding that I throw this gorgeous man back and take complete advantage of him.
Way too soon, Ryker pulls back. He breathless and hoarse when he gulps and says, "I-I think we should stop. I don't want our first time to be like this, Bay."
The hormone drunk woman inside of me screams, NOOO! while her logical and slightly prudish counterpart preaches It's too soon and you've been through too much over the last three days.
Eventually, the preachy prude wins out, and I snuggle back into Ryker's chest, basking in his glorious cucumber and melon scent and appreciating the way his presence warms me all the way from the outside where he touches me to the inside where I'm beginning to care for him. Deeply.

Excerpt #5:

Late hour or not, I'm calling him. I push the button and wait for him to answer.
Please let him answer.
"Hello," he says quietly before the phone finishes ringing the first time. There's not the slightest hint of sleep in his voice so I know he's been up... waiting for me to call.
"It's me," I whisper.
"I know."
We don't say anything. We just listen to the other breathe, basking in the few minutes we've stolen.
"Tell me what the doctor said," Ryker asks, and he's still as soft-spoken and undemanding as he'd been when he answered the phone.
I groan more to myself that out loud. "I have a fractured wrist and a cut on my head that required eight stitches."
I can almost hear Ryker's teeth grinding.
"Are you in pain, babe?"
"Yeah... but I'll be honest with you. None of that is bothering me nearly as much as the way I'm missing you," I confess.
Softening, Ryker huffs. "I miss you, too. In fact, I'm not sure I'm ever going to be able to leave you again."
And with his words... his kindness... his virtual nearness. I relax for the first time since he left the hotel earlier. The longer we are on the phone the more malleable my rigid and bruised muscles get,
"I'll hold you to that, Ry," I say, purposefully using the name his mother used earlier.
Ryker laughs out loud. "I'm taking it Mom has used my nickname while talking to you."
"That she has. I love it so much that I thought I would give it a try. Do you mind?" I ask, playfully smiling... maybe for the first time in hours.
"For you, anything," he says, and I know he means every word.

Characters (as I envision them):

Baylee Messenger is woman who loves as deeply as she hurts and who is as loyal as she is naive.

Colt Henderson is the man Baylee has given the last four years of her life to only to find that he's not nearly the man she's made him out to be in her heart.

Ryker Russell is enough of a knight in shining armour to step in when he sees a woman in need and stay with her until she finds her way back from despair.

Special Message: $0.50 from every regular priced ($3.99) special edition book will be donated to Houston Area Women's Center (Ending Domestic and Sexual Violence). This is an organization with a mission that has become near and dear to my heart after the last two books I've written (the research associated with the crimes committed against women was too painful and beyond disturbing).
